GALESBURG —
Galesburg
native and children's author Nancy
Johnson Knights will sign copies of
her book 'Gracie's Hill' from 1 to 4
p.m. Saturday at Mother Goosebumps,
77 S. Seminary St.
Knights, now of St. Charles,
published 'Gracie's Hill' with Black
Forest Press several years ago, and
is returning to Galesburg to share
the work with friends and residents
in her hometown.
Knights grew up in Galesburg on
Prairie Street. She attended Silas
Willard, Churchill Junior High and
Galesburg High School. Her mother
was Janet Worcester Johnson and her
grandfather, Russell Worcester,
served many years as president of
Purington Brick and Tile in East
Galesburg.
'Gracie's Hill' is inspired by
Gracie, the Knights' beloved Golden
Retriever. In gentle rhyme, Knights
takes readers on a walk through her
neighborhood, as seen through
Gracie's eyes.
'Everything that is in the book is
where we walk in our neighborhood,'
Knights said.
This is the first time Knights has
been back to Galesburg to promote
the book. While she no longer has
family in the area, Knights keeps in
touch with friends in the area.
Knights said she has always been
interested in writing — particularly
poetry — but it was her dog who
inspired her to publish a book.
'Gracie was the whole reason for it.
I wrote it for the love of Gracie,'
Knights said.
Knights lives in St. Charles with
her husband. They have two
daughters.
